The Jestre Trophy
The Trophy is at Hillcrest in Leicester.
Prove you are “The Smartest Wise Guy”
What is better than winning bragging rights? Having the trophy to prove you and your team are the smartest wise guys. All bars continue to offer their usual prize — gift certificate, drinks, hats, t-shirts, or whatever they normally offer.
Who can win the trophy?
Anyone can win the trophy, at any bar or restaurant that runs Wise Guys Trivia each week.
Follow the trophy: get an email every time it moves to a new bar. Create a free account to follow it, or log in.
How do we win the trophy?
-
1 Find the trophy
Very simple—we will post which bar is hosting the trophy on the schedule page and on our Facebook page each week.
-
2 Go to that bar
All you need to do is go to that bar and win on their trivia night. When the host asks you for your team name at the beginning of the night, you should let them know you are here to win the trophy for your bar.
-
3 Win it for your bar
If you win, your team will have their picture taken with the trophy to be posted as the “Smartest Wise Guys,” and the trophy will be moved to your local bar.
-
4 Defend it
Then other teams will come to your bar and try to win it from you!
FAQ
- So what exactly do we win when we play at the bar with the trophy?
-
If you win, all the bars have their own prizes — some have second and third prizes too. You win the usual prizes depending on your placing; that does not change. In addition, you win the trophy for your bar.
- How long do we keep the trophy for?
-
Your local bar keeps the trophy until a visiting team comes to play trivia and wins it back for their bar, in which case the trophy moves to their bar. In theory that could mean less than 24 hours, or many weeks.
- What if my local bar does not have Trivia?
-
You can ONLY claim the trophy if you are coming from a bar that is currently covered by Wise Guys Trivia. If you have a local bar where you would like to see Trivia Nights, speak to your host, and we would be glad to take the information. In the unlikely event the trophy is located at a bar in which Wise Guys no longer hosts, the trophy will be removed and up for grabs (we will announce arrangements in the unlikely event that happens).
You can also contact us — we’re always looking for new venues.
- What if I don’t have a “local” bar?
-
We understand some teams don’t have a “local bar” necessarily and like to play where they feel on any given night. That’s fine, but for this purpose, your team must pick the spot you are MOST likely to frequent, or maybe the bar that offers you the best perks for winning the trophy. You can NOT switch your local location on a whim and win the trophy back from yourself. In other words, you can’t win the trophy from bar “A” on Saturday, move it to bar “B” on Sunday then go back to bar “B” that night to win it back for bar “A.”
Ever Wondered Where the “Jestre Trophy” Came From?
Over the years, we’ve been incredibly fortunate to have many loyal followers. Some have been with us since we first launched Wise Guys Trivia back in 2010, while others joined our trivia family more recently. Among all those teams, one group truly stood out: Team Jestre.
While the team name changed frequently over the years, and the roster of players often evolved, the heart of Team Jestre was always Barry Johnston and his wife, Megan. Barry and Megan made it a point to visit every new venue we opened. Along the way, they became friends with nearly all of our hosts and consistently welcomed and encouraged new players to join in the fun.
Barry wasn’t just a regular participant. He was one of our biggest supporters, helping us grow the Wise Guys Trivia community through his enthusiasm, kindness, and genuine love of the game.
Sadly, Barry passed away in October 2020. At the time, we had an existing championship trophy, but we felt it was only fitting to retire it and create a new one in his honor. The Jestre Trophy was established as a tribute to Barry and as a small token of appreciation for the countless friendships he formed and the tremendous support he gave to Wise Guys Trivia over the years.
I will forever be grateful for everything Barry did for our organization and our community.
You are dearly missed, my friend.
P.S. If you’re wondering, “Jestre” is not a typo. Barry is survived by his wife, Megan, and their two children, Jessica and Trevor. Combine the first parts of their names, and you get “JesTre”... the inspiration behind the team name and now the trophy that proudly bears it.
